Two dancehall musicians, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale were arrested yesterday and forced to spend the night in police custody for their involvement in the chaos that occurred during the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
Shatta Wale had approached the stage where Stonebwoy was about to deliver his acceptance speech after he was announced as the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year.
The fight that broke out after Shatta Wale tried to get onto the stage also saw Stonebwoy pull out a gun.
Hours after this occurred, the police arrested the two key individuals and another person of interest called Nii Amoo.
Nii Amoo, according to the police, was seen “discharging pepper spray in the auditorium.”
In a statement signed by DSP Effia Tenge, the Head of Public Affairs Unit at the Greater Accra Police Regional Command, all three (Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale and Nii Amoo) have now been “granted bail to be arraigned” in due time.
As Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale and Nii Amoo wait for their time in court, the police said “the event organizers are also cooperating with the police in this investigation.”
This issue could take an uglier turn for all three involved.
